I think one of golf’s greatest mysteries is why so many golfers put up with the horrid manufacturer head covers that come with their clubs. I honestly just don’t get it. I admit that I’m even a bit obsessed with this question and ask at least a few golfers a week why they subject themselves to excessive pulling, tugging, and general frustration.
There are a handful of great high-quality covers that are currently on the market and most of them are available only through limited channels. While they aren’t hard to find online, they are almost non-existent in most golf stores and absent from all of the major big-box golf retailers.
Cru Golf is one of those new up-and-coming companies that is doing a great job of creating great head covers. We’ve reviewed some of the Cru Reserve Collection covers before and were really impressed.
The Cru Classics are a lower-priced head cover with a simpler construction and with a traditional argyle pattern on the top. The Classics are available in 7 color combinations and the covers are designed for use with standard drivers, fairway woods, and most hybrids. The Classics have a 2-piece design compared to the 3-piece design of the Reserves.
Each of the covers is made with quality leather and the durability is excellent. A few months in the bag with a minimum of a few rounds a week has left the covers showing no wear and tear whatsoever. Even the white accents still look brand new.
The insides of the covers are a nice soft material that allows for the covers to slip on and off easily. A gentle tug is all it takes to pull off the covers and there’s no fighting with the covers to get them either on or off.
The covers do a great job of staying in place when they are on the clubs .The elastic gatherings in the under portion of the head covers keep the clubs well protected and the covers will stay in place even if they are turned upside down and wiggled back and forth.
Until the big-box retailers figure out what they’re missing you’ll just have to rely on sites like Fresh to let you know what we think of these covers. As far as these covers go – I recommend that you pick a few up – I think you’ll be glad you did.
