I spend a lot of time in airports and take close to 100 flights a year. For the majority of those trips, my clubs come with me.
After going through a few golf travel bags over the years (some only lasting for a few months) – I started paying closer attention to the golf bags that came through baggage claim. The most popular, best looking, and most-frequently-in-one-piece-at-baggage-claim bags that I’ve seen have been from Club Glove.
I started noticing that there were a lot of different bags and the Club Glove bags always looked like they were in the best shape of any bags that I’ve seen come through.
I decided to put the Club Glove Burst-Proof 2 to the test and over the past few months the bag has been on 10 flights, trekked through 7 different airports, and been on a few car-based road trips. At the end of all this travel – the bag looks like it did the day it showed up in a box on my door step.
Club Glove makes quite a few different travel golf bags. From largest-to-smallest, they are: the Last Bag XL, Last Bag, and Burst Proof 2.
The bag that I tested was the smallest of the lineup and the perfect size for the type of travel that I do. I swore off cart-bags a long time ago and always travel with a lightweight stand bag. The Burst Proof 2 can easily hold my stand bag and still has enough room left over to throw in a pair of shoes and all of my golf gear and clothing for the week. I’m a bit of a minimalist – but there’s still plenty of room for the typical traveler to easily fit enough gear for a few days.
If you are looking to only take a single bag with you for a week or heading out to go on an extended golf trip – it’s likely that you might want to move up a size and check out the Last Bag or Last Bag XL – particularly if you travel with a large cart bag or staff bag.
The durability of the Club Glove bag has been excellent and you can tell that this isn’t a bag that was simply “thrown together” – it’s a bag with thoughtful design and a great attention to detail. The top area has additional padding around the most exposed areas of the clubs, the nylon material is exceptionally durable, and reinforcements are extremely strong. The overall craftsmanship of the bags is excellent. I really appreciate that this bag has everything that it needs and seems to have handles, reinforcements, and storage in all of the right areas.
I would also heavily recommend picking up one of the Club Glove Stiff Arms to go along with your bag. I’ve used a Stiff Arm for the past year (with a variety of different bags) and have yet to find a broken club in one of my travel bags. If there’s one thing you can be sure of – it’s that the baggage handlers aren’t going to care for your clubs like you do. The Stiff Arm is a cheap and worthy investment for anyone that ever puts their clubs on a plane.
Club Glove offers a big variety of colors for these bags. That’s a great thing because it looks like more and more people are using them and I’m starting to notice them just about everywhere I go. If you’re the least bit adventurous, I’d recommend picking a color other than black – since I’ve always seen at least one other black bag every time I’ve been waiting on my bag at baggage claim.
